Terms & Conditions

How we quote, how we work in your home or office, and how we get paid. These terms apply from the moment you approve an estimate.

What a quote costs

Nothing

What decides your job

Your estimate

Where we work

On site

01

Your estimate is the contract

The estimate sets the job. This page sets the rules every job shares.

Before any work starts you get a written estimate. It is the document that decides your job, and if it ever disagrees with this page, the estimate wins. It spells out four things:

PriceOne figure you approve. Not a range.
ScopeThe exact surfaces and areas we will work on.
DepositWhether one applies, how much and when.
ScheduleThe visit date and when payment is due.

If any of the four is missing, ask before you say yes.

02

Quotes cost nothing

You can ask, look at the number and decide not to go ahead.

We price from photos you email us. Send one picture of the whole piece and a close-up of every damaged spot, not just the worst one. The clearer the photos, the firmer the price.

Sometimes the honest answer is that a piece is not worth repairing. Hearing that costs you nothing.

03

The only reasons a price moves

Something the photos could not show, and you hear about it first.

Once you approve a price, it changes only if we find:

  • damage that did not show in the photos;
  • a different material from the one the photos suggested;
  • an old repair under the area we are fixing.

If that happens, we stop and tell you the new figure before going on. You can accept it, cut the scope back, or stop and pay only for the work already done. You will never get a bigger bill at the end without warning.

04

Deposits

Only when we have to buy material just for your job.

Most repairs need no deposit. A job that needs special-order material does, because that material cannot be returned once it is bought. The amount and the due date are written on the estimate before you approve it, and they do not go up later.

05

Paying for the work

When the job is done, unless the estimate says otherwise.

The balance is due on the day the work is finished, unless your estimate sets a deposit or a different schedule. The payment methods we accept are listed on your estimate. If you need to pay another way, say so before you approve it rather than on the day.

06

We work where the furniture is

Every Chicago job is done on site, at your home or office.

We need the real address of the piece, room to move around it, and an adult there to let us in and look at the result with us. Please clear the space around the furniture before we arrive, and tell us about parking, loading docks or building rules in advance.

07

What a repair does, and does not, do

We fix the areas on the estimate. The rest of the piece stays as it was.

A repair belongs to an area, not to the whole object. If we restore one seat cushion, that cushion is the work. The rest of the sofa keeps its age, and we will not suggest otherwise to win the job.

We blend repaired leather into the hide around it; we do not remake it as new. On old or very worn pieces the repair is judged from normal viewing distance, and we tell you what to expect before you approve.

08

Materials with limits

Bonded and faux leather wear out as a material. We tell you before we start.

Bonded and faux leather break down through the whole layer, not just on the surface, so a repair can only go so far. Unfinished hides such as aniline and nubuck soak things up instead of resisting them, which limits what we can promise too. If your piece is one of these, you hear it at the estimate stage.

Not sure what yours is made of? Our materials guide explains the differences.

09

Give the repair time to cure

The job is not finished the moment we leave.

Fresh finish needs time before normal use, and we tell you how long on the day. Sitting on it too early, cleaning it with the wrong product or adding a conditioner we did not suggest can spoil work that was sound when we left. Follow the aftercare notes and ask if anything is unclear.

10

Your photos

They are for quoting the job, nothing else.

We use the photos you send to assess the piece, price it and keep a record of the work. We do not post them on this site or use them in advertising without asking you first. The rest of how we handle your information is in our privacy policy.

11

Furniture that belongs to a business

Building paperwork and access are sorted out before the first visit.

Offices, restaurants, hotels and other venues often have rules about contractors, insurance paperwork and working hours. Tell us what your building requires when you ask for the estimate, so it is settled before we arrive. Larger jobs across many pieces or rooms are quoted as one project.

12

If something looks wrong

Tell us first, and let us see it.

If you are not happy with the work, contact us before anything else. Send a daylight photo of the area, a photo of the whole piece and the date of the visit. If someone else reworks the area before we have seen it, we can no longer judge our own work.

13

Changes to these terms

Your job follows the terms in place on the day you approved the estimate.

We may update this page as the business changes, and the date at the top will change with it. An update never alters a job that is already agreed.

Questions

Ask before you approve

If anything here is unclear, or your job needs something these terms do not cover, ask at the estimate stage. A person reads every email.
